WIMA announces finalists and press conference details
for 1st European NFC Competition

5th April 2007, WIMA Press Office – Organisers of the European Near Field Communication (NFC) Competition to be held on April 18 at the European NFC Developers Summit during WIMA 2007 have announced the competition shortlist.

The first European NFC Competition has attracted more than 50 high quality submissions from 13 countries including Finland, France, Hungary, Israel, England, Spain, Norway, USA, Germany, Slovenia, the Netherlands, Austria and Turkey, which the judging panel has now whittled down to 14 finalists.

Each finalist will attend the Competition award ceremony at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco on Wednesday April 18, where they will have an opportunity to present and discuss their work and where WIMA participants and members of the jury can try out the prototypes.  Ten awards will be handed out in total; the two overall winners – one in each Track (Track A for present NFC solutions and Track B for future uses of NFC) – will be presented with a trophy, and eight runners-up will receive certificates.

Addressing this year’s theme of ‘the simplicity of touch’, entrants have focused on innovation, commercial potential and usability, as well as the design and implementation of NFC technology, in their designs.  Entries for each track have been categorised as City Life, Enterprise Solutions, Personal Wellness & Healthcare and Infotainment.

Organisers of the European NFC Competition will also be holding their official Press Conference in Thursday April 19, where members of the jury, the competition committee and organising committee will be available to speak to members of the press.  Members of the press who wish to register their interest for this, should contact Carole Mandorlo, Press Officer for the WIMA press conference on: +377 93 10 40 53 or email.
