WAKEFIELD, Mass., USA – Feb 12, 2007 -- The NFC Forum , a non-profit industry association advancing the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, has released a white paper that highlights the capabilities of NFC technology and its potential to transform consumers’ everyday lives.

The new publication is entitled "Near Field Communication and the NFC Forum: The Keys to Truly Interoperable Communications." Its target audience is the general reader, and it can be viewed or downloaded at no charge from www.nfc-forum.org .

Near Field Communication is a standards-based, short-range wireless communications technology that enables simple and safe two-way interactions among electronic devices. NFC technology allows consumers to perform contactless transactions, access digital content and connect electronic devices with a single touch. Industry analysts forecast that several hundred million NFC-enabled phones and devices will be deployed worldwide by 2010.

With illustrations, anecdotes, and findings from industry analysts’ research, in an accessible style, the white paper provides background on the development of NFC technology and its potential to revolutionize the ways that consumers interact with electronic devices and perform everyday tasks. The white paper reveals how both businesses and consumers will benefit from the widespread adoption of NFC, and explains the way in which it optimizes use of other wireless technologies.

The white paper also recounts the success stories of some recent NFC deployments, from mass transit to sports events to tourist information kiosks, and shares predictions about its likely future direction and rapid global market penetration.
