The new key-fob-sized device, named plusID™,

authenticates a user's identity with their fingerprint

and enables secure access to buildings and other

physical facilities, local and remote computers and networks,

and online or onsite financial transactions.

This is the application that I have been waiting for and I hope it is soon implemented into mobile handsets and PDAs. Biometric Fingerprint FOB security to ensure its only you using your wireless device, the ultimate personal secure device.

Privaris has an unique wireless application that addresses biometric security in a wireless environment using the same 13.56 mhz format adopted by the NFC Forum . My opinion is that implementation of biometric security along with NFC enabled devices will help gain consumer trust and acceptance.

Consumers knowing that their NFC enabled unit can only be used by them will be more inclined to making transactions and storing private information on their NFC enabled mobile device. Security and identification theft is an important factor amongst consumer concerns, along with the thought of a lost or stolen device. Biometric fingerprint security adresses this problem and Privaris has realized it.

Privaris says "During the device issuance process, called enrollment, a template of the user's fingerprint is encoded and securely stored in their personal device. The fingerprint is never transmitted or released from the device.
Additionally, the device's on-board fingerprint sensor and biometric processing eliminates the need for a biometric database. This protects users from the very real and serious threat of identity theft. If a biometric database was hacked and biometric data stolen, unlike a password or credit card number, your fingerprint can never be reissued."

plusID is the world's first personal biometric fingerprint fob. One device provides secure access to multiple facilities, computers, and networks.
The Privaris plusID can be added to your existing physical and logical (computer) security environment with no changes to installed infrastructure, allowing you to upgrade security with minimal cost and disruption.

Key features of the plusID biometric security product

The rich and unique feature set of the plusID universal, personal biometric fob is vastly different from traditional biometric security solutions:

Economical & Efficient

One device serves all corporate security access needs
Works with existing security environments - no changes required to 90% of physical access systems
     Dramatically reduces password/PIN maintenance costs
Is reclaimable and reusable across the enterprise
Individual fingerprint sensors on personal devices reduce bottlenecks at doorways, maintenance costs, and health concerns

Personal Privacy[

Keeps user's biometric data private and personal
All biometric processing performed on the user's personal device
     Fingerprint template is never released
Eliminates the need for a biometric database

Physical Security

Licensed to work with HID®, Indala®, Kantech and SARGENT access control systems
Compatible with 125 kHz proximity card technology and 13.56MHz contactless smart card technology (ISO 14443A, 14443B, 15693, and NFC )
Aggregates up to four contactless smart cards and four prox cards in one device
Stores and transmits over 500 kilobytes of user credentials (such as passwords, building access codes, identity documents and photos)

IT/Logical Security

     Supports one-time-password (OTP) delivery
     Supports three-factor authentication
Provides local and remote logon to PCs and networks
     Secure, encrypted data transmissions
Provides a non-repudiable audit trail and reduces the cost of compliance with SOX, HIPAA, FFIEC, etc.
Easily integrates with third party software applications

Convenience

Eliminates the need for multiple access cards and multiple passwords
Can be rapidly deployed across existing physical and IT security systems
Fast and easy to use - typical verification times of a second or less
     Small, portable and personal
Allows for mixed populations of biometric and non-biometric devices
Functions both wirelessly and via USB
Rechargeable through any USB connector - ~1,000 uses per charge

Security

Designed to meet FIPS 140-2 level 3 security rating for tamper resistance
False acceptance rates of up to 1 in 100,000
     Full cryptographic service provider
Can store and transmit other biometrics, i.e., facial pattern templates, for multiple biometric authentication
